THE RE-MEMBERING SPACE

Group Gatherings

Sometimes we reach a point in life

where we begin to look more closely at the story we have been living

We may notice patterns that keep repeating, expectations we have carried for years, or questions about identity and belonging that have never quite settled.

The Re-Membering Space offers a quiet place to pause and reflect on the influences that may have shaped your life — including family history, inherited roles, and the wider structures that earlier generations lived within.

These conversations are for people who wish to understand their life story more deeply, and who are curious about how the past may still be shaping the present.

RE-MEMBERING

Understanding the story you inherited so you can live your life with greater freedom

The Re-Membering Space is a quiet place for thoughtful conversation and reflection.

It is for people who wish to explore their life story in a wider context — considering the roles, expectations, and historical influences that may have shaped the path they have taken.

These conversations are inspired by the ideas explored in the book, The Re-Membered People, and offers a place where those ideas can be reflected on in a personal way.

Together we explore the experiences, family influences, and inherited patterns that may be present in your life, allowing your story to be seen with greater clarity and perspective.

Many people find that when they understand their story in a wider context, some of the pressure they have been carrying begins to loosen.

The Spirit of the Re-Membering Space

These conversations are guided by a few simple principles.

Listening with care

This is a space where your story can be spoken and heard without judgement or interruption. Careful listening often allows new understanding to emerge naturally.

Seeing life in a wider context

Many of our choices and pressures do not begin with us alone. We gently explore the roles, expectations, and historical influences that may have shaped the story you are living.

Honouring personal reflection

The purpose of these conversations is not to offer solutions or advice, but to support deeper reflection. Each person remains the author of their own life and continues their own thinking beyond the conversation.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A RE-MEMBERING GROUP GATHERING

Re-membering Gatherings are shared spaces to sit together, reflect, and listen.

Each gathering is unhurried and gently held. You are welcome to speak about your life, or simply sit and listen to others. There is no pressure to share, and no expectation to arrive with anything prepared.

As stories are spoken, we listen together for the wider influences that may shape our experiences, including:

  • family roles and expectations

  • inherited patterns across generations

  • moments in family history that changed the course of life

  • cultural or historical pressures that shape identity

At times, what is spoken by one person may resonate with another. The space allows for this quiet recognition — not through analysis or advice, but through witnessing and reflection.

There is no expectation to reach conclusions or make immediate changes. The purpose of the gathering is to bring gentle awareness and perspective to the stories we are living, in the presence of others.

WHO THIS SPACE MAY BE HELPFUL FOR

The Re-membering Space may resonate with people who:

  • feel they are carrying expectations that did not begin with them

  • notice repeating patterns in relationships or life direction

  • are curious about how family history may have shaped their path

  • live between cultures or identities and want to understand that experience more deeply

  • sense that parts of their family story were never fully spoken about

  • find themselves at a turning point and want space to reflect on what comes next

Many people who come to this work are simply wanting to understand their life more deeply.

They often arrive with a feeling that something is not fully clear, even if they cannot yet name it.

People often come because:

  • “Something in my life doesn’t feel right”

  • “I keep repeating things I don’t understand”

  • “I’ve done therapy, but something still feels unresolved”

  • “I feel disconnected—from myself, others, or something deeper”

THE INTENTION OF THE SPACE

The purpose of these gatherings is not to analyse or fix, but to create a space where experiences can be spoken and understood within a wider context.

As stories are shared, we listen together for the influences that may be shaping our lives — including family patterns, inherited roles, and wider cultural or historical pressures.

Often, as these influences begin to come into view, there can be a growing sense of clarity and perspective. What once felt personal or isolated may begin to be understood in a broader way.

Some people leave these gatherings feeling lighter — not because anything has been solved, but because something has been seen more clearly, or recognised differently.

Gathering Details

Format: Small group gathering (online)
Length: Approximately 60–75 minutes

You are welcome to attend as you feel called. There is no requirement to commit to a set number of sessions.

These gatherings are reflective and unhurried, offering a calm space to speak, listen, and sit alongside others.

You may share something from your life, or simply be present and listen. There is no expectation to speak.

Together, we gently notice the patterns, roles, and experiences that may shape how we live and relate — both individually and collectively.

There is no expectation to reach conclusions or make immediate changes. The space is held to allow awareness to emerge in its own time, in the presence of others.

At times, you may find that hearing others speak brings recognition to your own experience — even in places where words have been difficult to find.

Gatherings are kept intentionally small to allow space for reflection and listening.

A GENTLE NOTE

The Re-Membering Space offers reflective conversations rather than counselling or therapy. If you are currently experiencing significant emotional distress, it may be helpful to seek support from a qualified mental health professional.

CLOSING INVITATION

If you feel drawn to explore the Re-Membering process, you are welcome to write a short message introducing yourself and sharing what led you here.

You do not need to prepare anything formal. A few sentences is enough.

You might include:

• your name

• where you are writing from

📩 Email: decolonise@lylasplace.cc

From there we can arrange a short introductory conversation and discuss whether the Re-Membering process feels like the right step for you.

The past does not disappear, but when we see it clearly, we are often free to carry it differently.

The past does not disappear,

but when  it is seen more clearly,
